Here's the thing about a freestanding deck: with no house to lean on, the structure has to be more complete, not less. Every side stands on its own footings. The frame carries every load by itself. And because there's no wall to steady it, the bracing has to do what the house would have done. A freestanding deck built casually is a wobbly platform; built properly, it's every bit as solid as a deck bolted to a home. We build the second kind.

- Posts and beams sized for the full load — every pound of the deck, the furniture, and the people on it is carried by the frame, with no help from the house.
- Lateral bracing — the detail that separates a solid freestanding deck from a shaky one. Bracing does the steadying work a house wall would otherwise do.
- Surface and railings to current code — decking and code-compliant railings, in the material you choose.
No Ledger, No Cutting Into Your House
An attached deck bolts through your wall into the home's framing. A freestanding deck asks nothing of your house: no penetrations, no siding removed, no load on your walls, nothing to flash or waterproof at the structure. For homes where the wall can't take an attachment — and for homeowners who simply prefer it — that's the whole appeal.
The honest trade: what the house isn't carrying, the deck's own structure must. A freestanding deck needs posts and footings on all sides instead of borrowing support from the home, which is the main structural difference you're paying for.

Pricing varies by material: Pressure-Treated Wood: $30 – $40 per sq. ft. (The lowest upfront cost, but requires staining every 2–3 years to handle intense Colorado sunshine). Cedar or Redwood: $40 – $55 per sq. ft. (Naturally pest-resistant and handles local temperature swings well). Standard Composite (e.g., Trex, Fiberon): $35 – $60 per sq. ft. (The most popular local choice; resists fading and requires zero staining). Premium PVC / Capped Composite: $55 – $75+ per sq. ft. (Top-tier brands or multi-toned boards with extended warranties) — published right here, not saved for the phone call. Because a freestanding deck carries itself on all sides, it typically needs more posts and footings than an attached deck of the same size, which is the honest structural reason it tends to sit toward the fuller end of a project budget. Ground-level freestanding decks are the economical version — simpler structure, less height, and yes, we're happy to build small ones.
